Emergency services were called to a Newcastle St house about 11.30pm on Saturday February 28 after a man entered the home uninvited and seriously assaulted one of the occupants.

Police are asking for the public’s help to find a distinctive-looking Mahia home invader who committed a serious assault before being hit over the head with a golf club.

Emergency services were called to a Newcastle St house about 11.30pm on Saturday February 28 after a man entered the home uninvited and seriously assaulted one of the occupants.

The man was then confronted by another person, who hit the man over the head with a golf club, causing injury to his head and face.

As a result of the hit to the head, the man fled the property on a side-by-side farm vehicle, down Newcastle St and onto Weld St, according to police.

A police spokesperson said it was a serious incident that happened in a place where the victim should have felt safe.

The victim sustained serious injuries, and both people at the address that night were shaken by the incident.

Police have conducted initial inquiries but have been unable to identify the man hit with the golf club and are now asking for the public’s help.

The man is described as aged in his 30s or 40s, around 6’1” to 6’3”/185.4cm to 190.5cm in height, and of chubby build.

He was reported to be wearing a white singlet with jeans and has very short black hair with a receding hairline.

Police are asking anyone who had seen a man matching this description, or who had unexplained head injuries from the weekend of Saturday February 28, to get in touch.

Additionally, police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed a dark coloured quad bike in the Newcastle St and Weld St areas between 11pm and midnight on that Saturday, February 28, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at that time.

Information can be provided by going online to www.police.govt.nz/use-105 and clicking “update report”, or by calling 105, quoting the file number 260301/0548. Information can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
