Police launch homicide investigation after man injured outside Napier nightclub dies

Napier police were called to West Quay in Ahuriri on Sunday, where the 46-year-old was found unresponsive on the ground.

A homicide investigation has been launched after a man badly injured outside a Napier nightclub died.

Andy Winitana, 46, of Hastings, died in hospital today following the incident about 1am on Sunday on West Quay in Ahuriri.

A 21-year-old man has appeared in the Napier District Court on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody and further charges were being considered, Detective Sergeant Ryan Kemsley said.

He is next due to appear in the Napier District Court on February 25.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident on the wharf area on West Quay between 12.30 and 1.30am Sunday,” Kemsley said.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who might have footage available.
