Police are still hunting the offender responsible for the sexual attack on a woman outside an Ahuriri retirement village on Thursday night.

The Napier woman was dragged from her car into Ahuriri Park and sexually assaulted during a smoko break outside Princess Alexandra Retirement Village, about 9.45pm, police said.

She was found about half an hour later by her work colleagues in a "traumatised and badly shaken" state.

The suspect was described as a man wearing a dark-coloured hoody and was possibly barefoot during the attack.
