Pictured Eternal Flame leaves residents hot under the collar

Dannevirke resident Jim Ryan was shocked and left in disbelief after the Napier City Council released a supplied photo of the eternal flame yesterday.

Mr Ryan said the eternal flame pictured looked nothing like the flame that once lit up the Napier War Memorial Conference Centre before the centre underwent its revamp.

"Whoever sent that photo in are idiots, as it is just a joke. That is nothing like the eternal flame and it is an insult to our intelligence and is actually disgusting."

"It just looks like a tiny flame coming out of a dish on some bricks, nowhere near what it once used to be."

"We just want the eternal flame put back but at the moment it looks like it has been burnt out and chucked down a rubbish dump along with the headstone."

He hoped more people would get behind it and help get the original eternal flame back to its original location.

"I hope this will stimulate others to do something as they realise their own family names are on the list."
