Mr James assured local residents they could expect a "high police presence" in the area until the matter was resolved.
In a separate incident yesterday, a rural Bridge Pa resident who did not want to be named said gunshots were fired into her property about 4pm before the perpetrators sped away in a car.
"It was probably silly young bucks shooting at rabbits. I was working in my office when I heard two shots in quick succession, it sounded like a semi automatic .22 [rifle]. I ran outside and they glided away in their car."
The resident said she did not find any damage to her property, nor any dead bodies of rabbits or other animals.
Senior Sergeant Clint Adamson of the Eastern District Command Centre said police had not yet found the suspects in the Bridge Pa incident, who were believed to have been driving a red hatchback.
