Those worried about the closure of police stations and the fact the doors of some others are closed at night may be interested an "open day" being planned for the new Napier station expected to be in use in December.
No date has yet been announced for the walk-through but,according to a media release from Hawke's Bay area commander Inspector Tania Kura, it's "well on track".
She also said contractors have been shouted a barbecue for "working hard to ensure a timely completion while ensuring the work is held to a high standard".
Construction of the $5.5 million station started in April as part of a $24 million redevelopment of major police facilities in Hawke's Bay.
Construction on a major complex in Hastings is set to start next year - leading to the police Eastern District headquarters shifting from Napier to Hastings.
The existing three-storey Napier and Hastings stations are among the last of a 1960s model common to cities of their size throughout New Zealand and considered no longer suitable for modern policing needs.
Ms Kura says police will host a public open day at the new Napier station before "officially" moving into the facility, which fronts onto Dalton St.
It is currently on Station St, so named because the railway station was once at its western end.
