After a dramatic summer packed with thunderstorms, tropical temperatures and the occasional deluge, Hawke's Bay will see the summer out with mild conditions.

MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said the high cloud cover hanging over the region at the start of the week would persist today.

"The only difference with Thursday being that you could get a few showers popping up on the ranges. You're looking at a very similar thing on Friday but the cloud may be a little less dominant."

Looking further afield to the weekend Mr McInnes said the weather was looking fine.

"The weekend is not looking too bad. Cloud is that dominant weather phenomenon which is not actually a bad thing because we're basically looking at a relatively fine weekend."

Apart from isolated showers about the ranges most parts of Hawke's Bay would stay dry, and next week would be much the same with additional showers, he said.

"On Monday we're looking at a few showers, again that's in the ranges, and once you go further afield we're starting to look like we're getting into disturbed weather patterns.

"There's a bit of uncertainly associated with how those will develop so in this case it's hard to say how much those will progress."

While there wouldn't be clear skies and hot, sunny days there was plenty of fine weather ahead, the meteorologist said.

Temperatures for the remainder of the week would be moderate, hovering in the mid 20s, and reach a maximum of 25C.

"We're really hovering around the mid 20s which doesn't sound as hot as what we've had so far but I'm sure in the middle of winter 25 degrees wouldn't sound too bad," Mr McInnes said.
