Ihaka Paul.

Ihaka Paul.

Police are still trying to find Napier man Ihaka Paul after he cut off his electronic bail bracelet, presented a pistol to family members, and actively avoided authorities.

Police had been told that Paul would hand himself in during the weekend but as of last night he was still unaccounted for.

There had been no sightings of him, Eastern District Police communications manager Kris McGehan said.

Paul (pictured) is described by police as Maori, about 1.7m tall.

He has a shaved undercut hair style and a large tattoo across his nose and cheeks, which could have been added to recently.

Paul was a prominent figure on the Hawke's Bay rugby league scene during his teenage years.

Paul was a member of the Hawke's Bay Unicorns Under-20s in 2009, and the Hawke's Bay Development rugby side in 2010. He had NRL trials with South Sydney and Cronulla.

His coach at the time said Paul had the potential to secure a Warriors contract.

He also played premier rugby for Clive and Taradale.

Paul has been wanted since Thursday, January 28. Days later police pursued a fleeing driver on Kennedy Rd, Napier. Ms McGehan it was "likely" Paul was involved.

Police said Paul was considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Police are urging anyone who has seen Paul, or if someone knows where he is, to call 111 immediately.
