A man has been arrested after an early morning car chase ended in a Napier creek.

Users took to social media this morning about the car chase, writing of police cars "screaming" around Tamatea.

Senior Sergeant Dan Foley of Eastern District Command Centre said the "brief" chase began about 8.50 this morning, and ended around ten minutes later.

The man was driving a blue Honda civic, stolen from Wairoa last night.

After the driver led police on a chase "all around the streets of Tamatea", it ended when he drove from Rochester St and crashed into the creek between Westminster Ave, and the Hawke's Bay Expressway.

The driver then left the vehicle on foot, crossed the expressway, and was apprehended and arrested by police in the industrial Edmundson St.
