VIOLENT: A man is recovering after a vicious home invasion in Napier this morning. PHOTO FILE

Police are hunting a group of men who assaulted and robbed a 58-year old male at home in Napier this morning.

At about 3am, the victim was woken by three men at his door.

The males kicked their way inside and demanded money. When the victim was unable to provide any; he was tied up with his own clothing and his property was ransacked.

A number of items were taken including the victims black wallet containing his identification, cheque and deposit books and mens jewellery.

During the incident, the victim was hit around the head with a blunt object, sustaining a nasty head wound. He was also kicked in the head. The victim is now recovering after his ordeal.

The victim lives in the commercial area of Niven Street, Onekawa, Napier. Its likely the offenders have travelled to his property in a vehicle and sightings of any cars entering and exiting Niven between approximately 2:45am and 3:45am are sought.

If any premises accessible to Niven Street have CCTV that shows the street they are asked to contact Police.

The offenders are described as males wearing dark coloured hooded sweatshirts. They were heavily disguised wearing bandanas across their faces, had their hoods up and wore gloves.

Two of them are believed aged in their teens, with the 3rd male in his early to mid 20's, The race of the men are unknown.
