Eastern police have confirmed that the motorist who stopped in Bay View on Wednesday morning and approached a pupil on his way to primary school was in fact a friend of the family.

A police spokesperson earlier said officers were investigating the incident that occurred about 7.55am at a bus stop on Main North Rd near Onehunga Rd.

Yet on Wednesday night police said their enquiries confirmed the motorist was a friend of the child's mother. "No further action is required from or will be taken by police."
