A man who claimed he only drank 2 glasses of wine before blowing over 400 micrograms per litre was not believed by the judge.
A judge has told a Napier man, who believed two glasses of red wine put him over the legal drink-drive limit, that he was the only person in the courtroom to believe such claims.
Douglas Bruce Aitken pleaded guilty to driving with a breath-alcohol level of more than 400 micrograms
per litre. The new drink-drive limit is 250 micrograms per litre.
Aitken claimed he was over the limit after drinking only two glasses of red wine. However, Judge Geoff Rea seemingly couldn't believe the man thought only two drinks would sent him over the limit.
"You're probably the only one in the room who thinks that ... I certainly don't," the judge said.
Aitken was convicted, ordered to pay a fine of $425 and disqualified from driving for six months.
