Glory one week and hospital treatment the next.
That's how it was for Rotorua streetstock driver Ronnie Towler at ZM Meeanee Speedway on Saturday night. A week after winning the Hawke's Bay championship Towler, who is a member of the Hawke's Bay club, had a painful end to his East
Coast championship campaign.
Towler had to be cut out of his car by fire service personnel before he was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with a broken foot, broken ankle and a suspected back injury. He returned to his Napier family's home yesterday while he awaited an MRI scan.
He collected his injuries when his car hit a safety wall after a mistimed hit on a fellow competitor as the streetstock lads turned on action stockcar drivers would have been proud of. Towler was one of three drivers to require medical attention on Saturday.
Wellington saloon driver Garry Marshall was concussed when his car flew into the safety fence.
Hawke's Bay TQ driver Travis Dorward was slightly concussed and also received a sore leg and a cut and bruising to the head when he flipped eight times.
