Heavy fog made another appearance across the Hawke's Bay landscape this morning - although unlike Tuesday, when it shrouded central Napier, Hastings bore the brunt of the damp stuff.
Hastings-bound commuters from Napier ran into the fog around Awatoto, and it was still thick over much of the city and district
by mid-morning.
It had not affected scheduled flights through Hawke's Bay Airport but did cause traffic to slow up, which pleased police.
"Any drop in visibility makes driving more challenging," a police spokesman said.
"We need people to follow the old advice - drive to the conditions."
There was a also a reminder for motorists using headlights in the fog to remember to turn them off when parking. For while the changeable warm/cool autumn time of year is well-known for its fog, it is also known for producing flat batteries.
The fog is the result of a high-pressure system east of the country and a low-pressure system moving on to central regions.
Cool or dry air moving over warmer water is the main cause, as the fog often rolls in from the sea.
