Hawke's Bay winemaker wins six golds

Hawke's Bay's Elephant Hill winery has had an early Christmas present - six of them to be exact and all coloured gold.
The Te Awanga-based winery picked up a gold medal for its Rania Dessert Wine 2009 at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards and followed that up last month with a scoop of five gold medals at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
Elephant Hill was rewarded for its syrah, reserve syrah, pinot gris, rose and viognier, and in addition to the medal haul was given confirmation that two wines, the 2010 rose and 2009 syrah, had been announced as trophy contenders at the competition's gala ceremony next February.
