The heat will turn up another notch on Saturday with a high of 29C and a low of 14C predicted for Wairoa, 27C with a low of 14C in Napier, 29C and a low of 12C in Hastings, and 28C with a low of 11C in Waipukurau.
Light winds will turn into northwesters in the evening.
Sunday is forecast to see 25C with a low of 15C in Wairoa and Napier, 26C with a low of 14C in Hastings, and 27C with a low of 13C in Waipukurau, with light winds expected across the region.
With some schools reopening on Monday, Magwala said there was still lots of sunshine to be enjoyed before the school year kicks off.
However, he said showers are forecast to develop on Monday, but that wouldn’t stop the high temperatures with Wairoa predicted to reach 30C, 31C in Napier, 32C in Hastings, with Waipukurau expecting to hit 28C.
