Hawke's Bay's charity auction, The Cocktail Party, has donated the largest amount of money in its history to the Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust.

The $100,000 donation was given to the Community Fitness Centre Trust on Thursday evening.

Roger Mulvay, president of the Hastings Karamu Rotary Club, which runs the event, said the result showed the community understood what the Community Fitness Trust could deliver.

"The record result shows that the Hawke's Bay community still enjoys what the club delivers in terms of The Cocktail Party and can understand the benefit of the programmes the trust will deliver for the community."

"It's important for the club that we have built a partnership with the Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Trust and we are looking forward to seeing the difference the funds raised can build a stronger Hawke's Bay community."

Sir Graeme Avery, from the Community Fitness Centre Trust, thanked the Rotary Club.

"We extend our very real thanks to all the sponsors and bidders who have made this result possible."

The donation will be used to fund programmes in lower-decile schools across the region, to raise awareness of healthy eating, physical exercise, sport training and development, and individual performance improvement.
