All Hawke's Bay Anzac Day services will go ahead, despite the need for police presence at many in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shootings.

Clubs Hastings, which incorporates the Hastings RSA, CEO Jackie Wells said a "lot of people are a bit up in the air about it", especially in the wake of a large number of services in Auckland being cancelled due to a shortfall in police resources in that region.

The Christchurch shootings led to police putting in place a plan to have officers at services across the country.

Wells said there would be a visible police presence at Hawke's Bay services, with all locked in to go ahead.

"It is status quo in the Bay — all services are on."

The only changes in terms of Hastings district events came down to a couple of minor changes surrounding the venues.

For the Hastings Dawn Service the fall-in will be outside the i-Site in Russell St at 5.15am.

The service will take place at the traditional Cenotaph venue at 5.30am with Ngahiwi Tomoana the guest speaker.

Growing numbers of people attending the Clive/Haumoana Anzac Parade has meant the service will now be staged across from the cenotaph at the St Francis Church.

The cenotaph site meant crowds taking up much of the roadways and that created a Health and Safety issue, Wells said.

While the service would be held at St Francis Church wreathes would still be taken across and laid at the cenotaph.

The increasingly well attended Havelock North service at the cenotaph will again be staged at 9am, with the guest speaker this year being Inge Woolf, a Holocaust survivor and director of the Holocaust Centre in Wellington.

She will be accompanied by her family — some of whom are presently serving in the New Zealand Forces.

As is now tradition services will be bolstered by the attendance of school students.

Taradale RSA president Brayden Coldicutt said their clubrooms would be open for breakfast after the Dawn Service which will take place at Lone Pine Cemetery at 6am.

"Our restuarant will open all day and we'll have live entertainment. We're keeping the traditions alive and we do want people to know that our services are still on.

"Everyone is feeling devastated in the wake of the Christchurch attacks, but we're not going to let events like this scare us, because we are still here to remember the people who have allowed us to be here in the first place."

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said that in wake of the attacks on March 15, there was no information of a specific threat to Anzac Day.

"The national threat level in New Zealand remains at high at this time. In light of this we will not hesitate from taking the steps we need – including the advice we have provided regarding Anzac Day services – to keep our communities safe.

"While we understand the advice to consolidate Anzac Day events is disappointing for some people, our priority is public safety and we will not compromise on this."

Bush said police would be in attendance at services to pay their respects this year, just as they are every year.
