The 2013 quarter Iron Maori was held on Saturday in Napier, with more than 2100 people of all age groups of physical abilities competing in the triathlon.
Now in its fifth year, Iron Maori aims to introduce Maori to physical exercise and activity, while providing a family and group atmosphere.
Iron Maori Hawke's Bay organiser and race director Heather Skipworth said Saturday's event involved more the 2100 competitors. "We have our half Iron Maori on December 7 and already we have 2500 that have registered for that."
She said Saturday's event had been well a "huge success" with many signing up for the larger December event.
"The most rewarding aspect of the events was hearing how the physical activity has changed lives," Ms Skipworth said. "The best thing is hearing about the lifestyle changes that the events provide and its about getting people together and involved in activity.
