Firefighters have been called to a street in Hastings.

Firefighters have been called to a street in Hastings.

A Hastings street has re-opened after a strong smell of gas was investigated by firefighters on Wednesday morning.

A section of Rangiora St in Mahora was briefly cordoned off as a precaution on Wednesday morning, but reopened around 10.30am.

Mahora Kindergarten and homes are located on the short street.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said they received a report about 9.15am about the smell of gas in the area.

Police assisted with traffic management and closed part of the street.
