The Hastings branch of Shanton Fashions has signalled it will close for good in less than a fortnight.
Staff at the women's clothing store arrived at work yesterday to find the landlord had locked the property due to it being behind on rent payments.
It's understood the store has sincebeen given an operating extension of a couple of weeks, but will cease trading after that period.
The Hastings branch had this year been tipped to remain open, while its Napier counterpart would close, along with 16 other stores around the country, in a restructuring process amid voluntary administration.
About 10 people worked in the two Hawke's Bay stores.
The company went into administration on January 12 in response to the withdrawal of its credit facilities and a demand for immediate repayment. It owed $7.79 million to 206 creditors, including the IRD and outstanding holiday pay to Shanton employees.
When it entered administration there were 155 employees nationwide. BWA Insolvency administrator Bryan Williams said yesterday the company had gone back into the management and control of its directors.
He said voting at a watershed meeting last week did not support the company going into liquidation.
