Two men spotted and stopped riding a pink golf cart in Flaxmere this week will know in the next few days whether or not they will be facing a day in court.

The pair were spotted by a passing patrol car enjoying a cruise through the streets in the unregistered and unwarranted cart - which was even more distinctive as it had been painted bright pink.

A police spokesman said officers looking into the incident were still considering laying theft and receiving charges.

The two men had not been fully interviewed yet.

Enquiries found that the cart was one of two that had been stolen from the Maraenui Golf Club just over a fortnight ago.

While one had shown up, having undergone a paint job, the second cart was still missing.

The men said they saw the cart being sold through Facebook and ended up buying it online.

Police had yet to ascertain whether that was the case, but issued a warning on that front.

"It is timely to remind people about buying items off Facebook pages - they could be stolen."
