Splashing about in the sun was a pretty good reward for the cold, wet mornings Napier school children spent doing school patrol.

Napier City Council treated more than 500 primary school children to a visit to Splash Planet, Hastings, yesterday for their hard work during the year.

Police co-ordinator Kevin Marshall said students took on responsibility and contributed to the community through school patrol.

Nelson Park School was awarded the Hawke's Bay Today Road Safety Cup for its top operation of school patrol.

Chief reporter Tracey Chatterton presented the trophy to students. Westshore School received the Napier City Council traffic warden shield.
