Hawke's Bay's cycle trails can expect a boost in two-wheeled visitors.

It will now be easier for people to find the trails, as a number of them are featured in the latest issue of AA Directions magazine. The publication is currently being delivered to the more than 580,000 AA members throughout the country.

The magazine's freelance contributor Mary de Ruyter spent three days on her bike researching the trails, experiencing local wineries and orchards and sometimes relying on the kindness of strangers to stay on course.

"Locals use the trails enthusiastically and when I happened to get a little off track one truck driver stopped his rig to jump out and set me in the right direction," she said.

Her well-worn tyres took her from Ahuriri Lagoon in Napier to the Otara Pa Historic Reserve, through the vineyards of Gimblett Gravels and along the coast, finishing at the end of Cape Kidnappers.

The AA Traveller Monitor survey showed that from May 2014 to April 2015, more than 1.2 million domestic travellers visited the region.

The latest issue of AA Directions magazine is available now online at www.aa.co.nz/directions.
