Free firewood is available from a liquid amber tree to be cut down in Nelson St, Hastings, after a third of it split off in high winds last weekend.
Vatsal Desai said the "age old" tree had been seen as a protector of the Old Flame building that houses the Master
of India restaurant, and its destruction had changed the landscape of the building forever.
Mr Desai said an agreement had been reached with the landlord of the property to give away the surplus wood.
The tree was to be cut down by and aborist on Thursday, and charitable organisations or similar were invited to call Mr Desai on 06 8709992.
