"So, we might be looking at a few light showers for the east coast of the North Island, including Hawke's Bay about late Thursday and into Friday but really nothing to absorb the high."
However, things could turn slightly worse at the weekend.
"We are tracking a potential low in the Tasman. So, this weekend or early next week we might see some decent rainfall but at this stage that's still a bit far away but it does look like the weather will deteriorate from the really nice spell we have had for the last seven or eight days as that high sat over the country."
MetService's 10-day forecast shows both Napier and Hastings can expect temperatures to remain in the low 20s for most of the week, with daytime highs peaking at 23c to 24c on Thursday.
The southern areas of Hawke's Bay, around Dannevirke, will stay sunny but can expect rain to move in on Thursday as a gusty nor'wester gives way to fresh southerlies.
