The 14th Fiesta of Lights kicks off tonight with twinkling lights and 40 unique displays along a kilometre long trail over the Christmas holiday period.

Organiser Te Rangi Huata said the family event, held at the Hawke's Bay Showgrounds, will run nightly from 9pm and from tonight until January 4.

He said Cinderella's coach, Jack and the Beanstalk and 100,000 fairylights have been added this year to keep the display looking fresh.

"People, kids have said they've wanted to see that [Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk] this year. People wanted to see something romantic."

Old favourites return including the time tunnel, running man, hopping frogs, jumping deer, swinging kiwis, a fiery sea monster and an eye-catching 30m wide nativity scene.

"We usually get about 12,000 people through but we expect a few more this year with us doing a New Year celebration."

Entry is from Karamu Road and costs $4 per person.

Under 3-year-olds are free and the New Year's Eve celebrations are $5.
