Police have named the man who died following a crash on Swamp Hill, Fernhill, Hastings, yesterday.
He was 26-year-old Fauialo Lautala, of Hastings, who was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the crash, to which emergency services were called at about 11.30am.
It occurred on astraight stretch of Swamp Rd, with the nearby area containing one of the few hubs of housing along the isolated thoroughfare from Puketapu to Omahu.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident that left the car upside down and mostly submerged in a deep drain.
Police had advised his family and extended their condolences.
