Hastings Police were called to a serious accident scene in York Road, Hastings, at 11,05 this morning.
Sergeant of the Hawke's Bay Road Policing group Paul Ormerod told Hawke's Bay Today that a ute travelling east on York Road was overtaken by a small green vehicle.
"A Suzuki cartravelling west toward Flaxmere had taken evasive action and lost control crashing head on into the ute.
"Unfortunately because of the impact the driver of the Suzuki died at the scene. "The driver of the ute has been spoken to by police and was co-operative. Police are still looking for the small green vehicle."
