Hastings byelection candidate Eileen Lawson has secured the Hastings/Havelock north ward seat with a significant majority, according to preliminary results released this afternoon.

To date Ms Lawson had secured 3384 votes ahead of Stuart Perry with 1777, Bruce Bisset, 1480 votes, Chris Perley, 1118 votes, Rion Roben 887 votes and Alezix Heneti, 493 votes.

This afternoon the voter return was sitting at 28.12 per cent of eligible voters, being 9,178 votes.

There were 123 ordinary voting papers in transit to the processing centre and 34 special votes yet to be processed.
