Hawke's Bay offers a wide range of art galleries, where local artists take centre stage. Astrid Austin presents eight of the many galleries to visit.

1. MTG Hawke's Bay
MTG (Museum, Theatre and Gallery) allows people to have a look at the various buildings, exhibitions and art on offer. Located at
1 Tennyson St, Napier.

2. David Trubridge
A globally recognised design company; David Trubridge produces lighting, furniture and accessories locally. The showroom and studio are on the corner of Station Rd and Groome Pl, Whakatu, Hastings. They will re-open for 2017 on January 16.

3. Hastings City Art Gallery
Hawke's Bay's publically funded contemporary art gallery offers a varied programme of exhibitions, presenting quality national and international shows. Located in Civic Square, the gallery is at 201 Eastbourne St East, Hastings.

4. Napier's Community Arts Centre
The CAN holds exhibitions, concerts, musical and theatrical productions, and a wide variety of arts workshops, for professional and emerging artists of all genres. It is located at 16 Byron St, Napier.

5. Birdwoods Gallery
Just 3km from Havelock North Village, at 298 Middle Rd, Birdwoods Gallery offers a range of unique sculpture and decorative art by local and South African artists. The gallery also provides food and treats from the old-fashioned sweet shop.

6. Electra Gallery
The gallery promotes Central Hawke's Bay artists and features the works of selected New Zealand artists. It is located on Ruataniwha St, Waipukurau.

8. Parlour Project
