The Hawke's Bay District Health Board has welcomed funding in the Budget for more elective surgery, which it says is good news for the region.
The Government said it had allocated $98 million across the country to provide more New Zealanders with "timely elective surgery" and to improve the preventionand treatment of orthopaedic conditions.
Hawke's Bay DHB chief executive Kevin Snee said the extra elective surgery funding was welcome.
"The extra funding and the Operation Productivity programme we have in place will mean we are able to offer more elective surgery to more people. That can only be good news for people in Hawke's Bay," Dr Snee said.
The DHB's palliative care clinical director, Carol McAllum, welcomed an extra $76.1 million over four years to fund hospice and palliative care services nationally.
"Being able to meet the needs of people and their families, towards and at the end of life, wherever the person is - at home, residing in [an] aged care facility, hospital, hospice or other place - is the ideal," she said.
The Budget would would give staff financial and moral support to do that.
