The weather has been fortunate for us coming into the winter, with inter-house sports only being postponed for one day so far.
Earlier this month Masterton hosted the regional finals of the Smokefreerockquest.
There were 10 acts for the night plus a guest band and the finals were held atKing St Live, a new venue, full to capacity with 90 seats.
Lauren Carr took out the Apra Lyric Award 2015 at the regional Smokefreerockquest finals.
Dannevirke High School student Lauren Carr competed with two songs: Inhumane Humanity about the dying state of humanity while acknowledging the fact one can still choose to change; and Holler, about how differently teenage boys and girls value love. For her efforts, Lauren won the Apra Lyric Award 2015, placed first in the solo/duo category, and was one of two overall winners.
Our winter sports season is in full swing with many students competing every weekend. Thank you to all of the volunteers and supporters who donate their time to assisting our students during the winter sports season. We had some of our students out this week with the Big Sing regional choir competition. After excellent feedback from our last competition, we are hoping for more success.
Academia is of primary importance in the coming week with school examinations being held. I would like to remind senior students that there is no study leave offered during this time. Students will be in scheduled classes before and after their examinations.
