More than 100 primary school children competed for athletics supremacy at the annual interschool meeting at the Dannevirke Domain. Competition was intense, with children from seven schools striving to win the six events and the prestigious interschool relays.

Weber School won the junior relay in a time of 1.07.17, followed by Huia Range in second and Ruahine in third place. Huia Range took out the intermediate relay, with a time of 1.01.59, with Norsewood second and Ruahine third. Huia Range also won the senior relay in 0.58.48 seconds, from St Joseph's and Dannevirke South School.

Records were set in the junior and intermediate discus and shotput events. Thomas Lilo from Huia Range set a new record in the intermediate boys shotput, throwing 8.41 metres. He also set a record of 22.45m in the discus. Tamati Ratutahi of Ruahine School set a new junior boys shotput record of 9.95m, with Josh Augustine, also from Ruahine, throwing a record 19.06m in the discus. Chanel Harvey of Weber set records in the junior girls shotput, 7.76m and in the discus, 14.40. The intermediate girls shotput record was set by Brenna Lansdown of Norsewood, with a throw of 7.23m, while Taysha-Lee Nicholson of Huia Range Schools set a new intermediate girls discus record of 17.91m.
