A Dannevirke man is lucky to have just minor injuries after allegedly being thrown through the window of the Hawke's Bay Today/Dannevirke News offices following an argument between jealous lovers in the early hours of yesterday.
Dannevirke Police and the St John ambulance were called to the Gordon St officesjust before 1am, Senior Sergeant Nathan Davis of the Tararua police district said.
"We had two 20-year-old men walking down the road when they had a jilted lovers' argument," Mr Davis said. "A girl was friends with both and this didn't go down well with one of the men who pushed the other through the newspaper office window."
The man then pulled the other man out of the window and a scuffle occurred.
The alleged offender was overpowered and Constable Q Yang of the Dannevirke Police was called. Constable Yang called a Dannevirke News reporter to the scene.
Ambulance staff treated one man for minor injuries and Mr Davis said he was lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries. "It's a very large piece of glass and this sort of thing happens when young men act without thinking," he said.
The alleged offender was charged with assault.
Mr Davis said the 20-year-old was expected to visit the Dannevirke News offices yesterday afternoon to discuss arrangements to pay for the repairs, but if he failed to turn up reparation through the court would be sought.
