December 14 this year marks the coming of age of one of New Zealand's most popular rides - the Suzuki Coast to Coast.
So the Woodville Lions Club is inviting riders to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike) to Himatangi and join the celebration.
The ride starts at Himatangi Beach fromthe Cosmopolitan Club, opposite the Himatangi Dairy (a new venue).
After registering, riders and pillions are invited to buy "a great breakfast" from the Tararua Lions, to set them up for the ride ahead.
The Coast to Coast travels from west to east, passing through Foxton and Shannon then over the Pahiatua Track. Riders then join the annual Woodville Christmas Parade, where the bikes are a real highlight - even more popular in many cases than the big guy in red - drawing crowds from far and wide. There is a complimentary lunch in Woodville before riders head to Akitio via Mangatainoka, Makuri and Pongoroa (where petrol is available).
At a little over 200km, it is a great day's ride which supports a truly worthy cause: The $20 to register helps fund the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter and since the ride's inception more than $135,000 has been raised to help fund this essential service. The Coast to Coast is the longest-running consecutive fundraiser for the service - something riders can be proud of.
At the finish of the day-long ride, participants have the option of staying at Akitio for the night to enjoy the hospitality of the locals.
Accommodation is available at the community centre and at the Akitio Beach Camping Ground tent sites. Bookings are essential. Breakfast and takeaways are available at the local shop
A prize-giving at 3pm is always a highlight - recognising the oldest, the youngest, the hairiest riders and more. Generous sponsorship means there are plenty of spot prizes on offer and an auction, which offers great entertainment and bargains. Eftpos is available.
There is a full bar and steak sandwiches available at club prices. Woodville Lions encourage riders to "Make the most of it - don't drink and ride home, stay the night."

As in the past, the event will be overseen by the NZ Police Highway Patrol.
Woodville Lions receive event sponsorship from Suzuki NZ, Horizons Road Safety, Pahiatua New World, RD1, NZ Police Highway Patrol and Diamond Home, all of whom provide essential support to enable the ride to go ahead.
"Regardless of whether you are a first time Coast to Coaster, or a 20-year veteran, we look forward to seeing you at 9.15am on December 14 at Himatangi," says Clive Boyden of Woodville Lions.
"This is a badge ride, with badges available for purchase at registration. Help us to help the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter."
