LUCY CRAYMER
There is no secret behind M>PHOSIS Hair Studio's clean sweep of the region's top hairdressing award, rather it was just hard work.
The Hawke's Bay Association of Hairdressers' competition was held at Hawke's Bay Assembly rooms in Hastings yesterday and M>PHOSIS stylists Camille Gesztey and Jessica McDermott took away the
overall apprentice and senior champion awards. The other top four awards were won by M>PHOSIS hairdressers.
M>PHOSIS owner Mrs McDermott said they were pretty happy with the result.
"We got 11 awards last year and we didn't think we would beat that but I think we won 15 this year," she said.
The hairdresser of 13 years said there had been plenty of anticipation before the competition and they had put a lot of pressure on themselves too win.
"We have a great time and we have lots of fun. It's as much a hobby as a job," she said.
The competition takes weeks of work and preparation and the stylists do research, that is hours of flipping through their favourite fashion magazines looking for ideas and inspiration for the competition and trying these out.
With all the research Mrs McDermott cannot list all her favourite hair styles but likes curls and finger waves.
