A Napier man has been jailed for burgling a supermarket during a shoplifting expedition. Jason Isaac King, 35, was charged with the burglary variation of entering premises with intent to commit a crime, and after two months in custody on remand was on Friday sentenced to nine months jail. It was oneof 13 charges which had stacked up since about the time of the offence on October 9. On Friday, seven charges were withdrawn, and King, a father of nine who, Judge Mark Perkins observed, appeared to have relapsed into a life of offending, pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary, an associated charge of trespassing at the supermarket, two charges of theft, and one each of careless driving and driving while disqualified. He had two defence counsel. Derek Quilliam acknowledged on King's behalf that a prison sentence was expected in relation to the theft charge in which he acted. And fellow defence lawyer Nigel Hewat said: "Jason says there are a lot worse thieves around than him. He's certainly doing his best to emulate them."
