Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or assisted the man before the ambulance arrived, to contact them on 105 and to quote reference number 251227/1644.
Then, a second person died following a crash in Tangoio earlier today.
The single vehicle crash on State Highway 2 was reported just after 11.40am. The sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
Fifteen people died on the roads over the same period last year.
