Unison Networks is investigating the cause of a power cut to 5000 of its customers in the Hastings central business district about 2.15am yesterday .
The company said electricity was back on after seven minutes when its staff re-routed the network to an alternative power supply.
It was believed the
power cut may have been caused by a fault in an underground cable.
The Hastings Fire Service said it was likely the power surge triggered an alarm at the New World supermarket after 2am while over at the Hastings police station, staff were left in the dark for a time as electricity was cut to the building.
