A Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter was called after a boy was seriously injured in a bike accident.
A teenage boy was seriously injured when he fell from his mountain bike and was knocked unconscious yesterday.
The 14-year-old boy fell from his bike at Flemington, south of Waipukurau, about noon.
A Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter spokeswoman said the boy was found unconscious and airlifted by the helicopter toHawke's Bay Regional Hospital in a serious condition.
A hospital spokeswoman said he remained in a serious condition in the hospital's intensive care unit yesterday afternoon.
The rescue helicopter crew was also put on standby on Saturday, when a paraglider was reported to have crashed on Te Mata Peak, but the call turned out to be a false alarm.
Hawke's Bay Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club president Rebecca Rae said she was not aware of any incidents at the weekend, but said that when paragliders took off from Te Mata Peak, "sometimes in the situation it can look more dramatic than it actually is".
