Hawke's Bay Today's Bring yer Boots campaign is gathering pace - with scores of boots coming into the offices.

The cross-code initiative - launched last month with Magpies first five-eighth Ihaia West donating a pair of his playing boots - is geared to encourage people to donate their old sports boots for children needing some sprigged footwear this winter.

Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin said he was pleased the newspaper could play a positive role in the community and asked anyone with unwanted boots to donate them.

"We call on our readers to support this drive and donate their old sports boots to the youngsters out there who need them," Mr Austin said. "It's exceeding expectations, but we're loving it."
