A local home baker is seeing her prizewinning Anzac biscuits made commercially with proceeds going to the RSA.

Wendy Reading from Havelock North was crowned Best Anzac Biscuit Baker in the Bay in a local radio competition.

"I was so surprised that my old recipe that I have used for years took out the best Anzac biscuit in the bay. I only decided on the morning to do some baking so it was incredibly exciting to find out I had won and it wasn't just my children that loved my Anzac bikkies."

First prize for Wendy was a Magimix food processor from Total Food Equipment, and having the biscuits made at Bay Espresso cafes and sold locally to raise money for RSA.

Bay Espresso owner Chris Jarvis said it was such a good opportunity for his business to show its respects to the Anzacs and raise money for the RSA.

"Wendy's entry was a clear leader and after taking the first bite I knew it was a biscuit that would sell well in our stores as we try to make as much money as we can for the RSA."

The biscuits retail for $2.50 each, with $1.50 for the RSA.

Fellow judge and RSA spokesman Gerald " who described Wendy's biscuit as tasting just like his mother used to make " said the RSA was honoured to be on the receiving end of such a great fundraiser.
