Bay braces for much more rain

More rain is coming to Hawke's Bay

After just a day's reprieve, heavy rain is set to return.

More than 100mm of rain has drenched the region in the past 60 hours, resulting in floods and road closures.

MetService meteorologist Karl Loots said the Bay would be stuck in a southeasterly flow until Friday, with rain possibly clearing by the weekend.

MetService is advising people to regularly check its website for updates.

Wairoa has received the worst of the wild weather, with 120mm of rain there.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council communications manager Drew Broadley said Wairoa District Council's roading and engineering departments were flat out yesterday.

Dusty's Bridge off Waihua Rd was significantly damaged. There was no alternative way in or out for one stranded household but access was due to be reinstated later today.

Most of Wairoa District's slip damage had been cleared.

Hawke's Bay road policing manager Senior Sergeant Greg Brown said motorists should slow down and drive to the conditions while the roads were wet.
