The NBL double-header for the Hawks in the south this week will be an ideal litmus test.

"There'll have to be no excuses. We have to go out before hostile crowds ... and everybody is doing the right things," says assistant Hawks coach George Galanopoulos before they face the Canterbury Rams and Southland Sharks tomorrow and on Sunday, respectively.

"It'll be good to see how we handle the adversity."

It' was going well despite the Hawks having three wins and as many losses.

"They weren't very good losses and they didn't look good but I think it's too early in the season for me to panic."

"The two from two on the road is very important because two wins will put the Hawks in a promising position and everything will be sunshine and rainbows".

Just observing the inside mechanisms of what makes the Hawks team tick satisfies American Galanopoulos.

"If we're going to make a run now to win some specific tough games on the road then now is the time to do it and I'm confident we will."

The Rams share a yo-yo start but he knows they have a propensity to pile up points.

"They could be a very tough team to guard so if we play the game we're capable of playing ... then we can dictate the way they play."

Playing a certain style that sets the tempo for the Rams is the secret tomorrow.

"But you can't take anything for granted and you can't hope that a certain type of team will show up or hope that they won't show up. We have to impose our will on them as much as possible."

The best balance a team can strike on the offensive end is on the inside and outside.

"On the defensive end it takes an entire team to stop an individual or another team so if we can rebound the ball, if we can make the stops and take care of the ball a little better at the other end then it'll be the recipe for our success."

Players taking care of their bodies with proper sleep is also vital.

The oh-and-eight Augusta Taranaki Mountainairs are the best winless team he's been up against.
