With a history of bowel cancer in her family, Waipukurau's Jane Hamilton knows she has to be vigilant about her health, which drove her to place the winning bid on a colonoscopy at the Property Brokers Cancer Society charity auction last week.
The colonoscopy was one of a range of goods and services on offer at the fundraiser that Mrs Hamilton, a Waipukurau Property Brokers sales manager, said raised more than $62,000 this year.
"I had heard from one of our agents that this would be auctioned and seeing as I should be having a colonoscopy regularly I thought that was something I could bid on."
Mrs Hamilton said her mother had bowel cancer about 15 years ago, and the family were told to be vigilant.
"Even though she didn't die from it, we obviously had the gene so we needed to be pro-active, and myself and my siblings are very good at doing it."
