Speed and loading limits on the Mohaka Bridge on SH5 between Napier and Taupo are likely to remain in place until April while major structural repair work is carried out.
Motorists can expect delays with temporary traffic lights set up as a one-lane system across the bridge has been set up.
There will also be times when manual stop-go controls will operate, when crucial welding needs to be carried out, and motorists are asked to be patient, and when approaching and crossing the bridge do so with caution.
A speed limit of 30km/h has been imposed on the bridge and its approaches.
A maximum permitted gross weight for each truck is 60 tonnes, and trucks are requested to travel across the bridge with a clear separation of 40m.
Also on SH5, road works are being carried out just north of Te Pohue and south of Tarawera, with minor delays expected.
Delays are also likely on SH2 north of Napier at various work sites between Bay View and Morere.
On SH2 south there are work sites at Pakipaki, Waipawa and Takapau.
