The lobby group that successfully pushed amalgamation on to the political agenda has had its say on the Local Government Commission's proposal to merge Hawke's Bay's five councils.
A Better Hawke's Bay is suggesting a super council for the region comprise 18 councillors - a doubling of the number proposed by the commission.
That is two more than the 16-member council ABHB proposed last year in its submission, which formed the basis for the Commission's proposal.
ABHB chair Rebecca Turner said yesterday the group had listened to the issues that had been raised in relation to the amalgamation debate and was attempting to put forward the best possible option for the region.
"We want to get this right for Hawke's Bay's sake," she said.
