Art auction will aid hospice

New Zealand artworks will go under the hammer for Cranford Hospice at the Tremains Charity Art Auction this week.

Hawke's Bay businesses are welcome at the auction, which will feature art from the collection of the estate of the late Cedric and Joan Alexander.

Tremains Real Estate agent Kiki Abel said the pieces up for auction were by renowned New Zealand artists, including Lance O'Gorman, Michael Blow and Ion Brown.

"There's some really good pieces in there."

A silent auction would be conducted by Tremains Real Estate director and co-owner Simon Tremain, with 25 per cent of the proceeds to be donated to Cranford Hospice.

Mr Tremain was glad of the opportunity to give a boost to the hospice.

"One of the properties we sold had a lot of art in it and the owners decided it was time to sell their collection.

"[Cranford] are one of the best charities in Hawke's Bay and it's a good way to give back to them," he said.

The auction will be held at Napier's Cossie House on Albion St, on Thursday at 5.30pm. People were advised to RSVP before Thursday.

A dinner was planned at Mexican restaurant Mexi Mama, following the auction.
