Old soldiers sat with school children, cadets, servicemen and the families of men who died for New Zealand at the Clive War Memorial Pool yesterday, to commemorate Armistice Day and rededicate a World War II remembrance plaque.

The plaque is a replica of one on the nearby Farndon Park gates, which are no longer used.
"Today is about re-dedicating the plaque and using Armistice Day as the principal reason for the gathering," organiser Des Ratima said.

Armistice Day commemorates the cessation of World War I hostilities between the Allies and Germany, which ceased at 11am on November 11 in 1918 - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
